History

Some years ago, Barnby Dun Social Football Club, Barnby Dun Colts Junior Football Club and Barnby Dun Cricket Club came together to form the Barnby Dun & Kirk Sandall Sports Association with the aim of re-developing the then defunct Pilkington Sports Ground, which had fallen into disrepair following Pilkington’s withdrawal from maintaining the ground

At this time only the senior football club were utilising the ground with no changing facilities, which forced the players to change in the Social Club, which is located over a mile away. Over the years the Association has gradually improved the facilities to the extent that the ground now has rudimentary changing facilities, but they are far from being suitable, especially given the Association’s desire to develop girls' football.

It has however allowed junior football and cricket to return but all 3 sports continue to operate under difficult and trying circumstances, despite the obvious enthusiasm and commitment of all volunteers

In addition the lack of changing facilities means that the Association lacks a focal point from which to develop further activities including fundraising and the ongoing development of skills coaching.

As part of the Association’s long-term development plan, we plan to continue to improve the playing facilities, with the development of a new playing area to allow for the re-introduction of junior football including the provision of community soccer schools for both boys and girls.

The Association intends this development to feed into expanding the number of junior teams of both sexes

In addition the cricket club need to have permanent changing facilities if they are to continue with their current league membership and further develop the already expansive junior section into one which continues to provide a seamless transition to senior cricket, thus ensuring the club’s longer term future.
